The Vehicle Repeater units installed in the various trucks are used to enable a person with a handheld radio to talk on the truck radio if there is a range problem with the portable not being able to contact another party. Think of the portable as a wireless microphone for the truck. I will try and explaine the use as easy as I can.

Select the channel on the truck radio that you wish to talk on.
Push the Rptr enable button on the mobile. (Far Right Button RPT)
Turn the portable to channel 22 (Handheld Repeater or vrpt)
Your portable is now a wireless microphone for the mobile radio.

The Portable will now be on channel 22, and if channel 5 is selected on the mobile, the portable is talking on channel 5 on the truck radio as well.

The Vehicle Repeater name might be confusing in a sense that it doesent repeat or extend the range of the handhelds. The handhelds will still have to be in a close proximity to the vehicle. Probably about a mile at a maximum.
